About

Mathias studied Language and Cognitive Psychology at the Universities of Leipzig, Germany, Wollongong, Australia, and Nijmegen, the Netherlands and graduated in English Studies and General Linguistics from Leipzig University in 2012, specializing in Psychology of Language and Semantics and Pragmatics. For his graduate studies on the Psycholinguistics of Dialogue, he moved to the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen and received his PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2020. After working as a PostDoc in Experimental Pragmatics at Humboldt University Berlin, Germany, Mathias moved to the Department of Pragmatics at the Institute for the German Language in Mannheim, applying a nixed.methods approach to the study of human-machine interaction and leading a research project on the semantics and pragmatics of turn timing in dialogue.

His doctoral thesis entitled "Speech Planning in Dialogue - Psycholinguistic Studies of the Timing of Turn Taking" can be downloaded here.
